The wetlands we were finally able to use for a building project


were man made. The state cut a drainage ditch across the property when building a road and never maintained the ditch. 3 acres were declared wetlands when there wasn’t any natural standing or running water in a 5 mile radius. Cost us over a year and 500k and as I’m sure you know, the mitigated land we had to purchase was 2 to 1 for what was disturbed. In fact about a third of what we disturbed was turned into a BMP pond so we actually created more wetlands than required.
